What's wrong with Canada!

There's been a huge earthquake in Haiti, but Canada is still fiddling, trying to decide whether it should send DART, its emergency aid team.

This is the same thing that happened after the Boxing Day Tsunami.

You'd think they'd have figured out that the time to send help is immediately, not after dawdling and letting days go by.

Especially considering the fact that our Governor General, Michaelle Jean is Haitian, you'd think they'd have the DART guys on the first available plane. Oh, but I forgot, they'd have to be cleared by the ViewMasters at the airports. Besides, Parliament's on yet another prorogue holiday, so nothin's happenin' mon.

Sheesh.

Of course Michaelle Jean is Canadian. Just another reason to hire an editor before publishing anything, because this is what happens when one writes in the passion of the moment. Errors. Thank you for pointing this out. For the record, she was born in Haiti and has many friends and family there. I also understand that after Afghanistan, Haiti is the next highest recipient of funds from Canada, so clearly it's a country that's high on Canada's radar.
And yes, aid is now streaming in that direction. I just didn't understand why the planes (at least the one carrying the 20 advisors) weren't in the air immediately, so they could be there on that first terrible dawn.

Well your post worked - it got them there!

Gosh, but I still find aspects of our response so disappointing. Last I heard, the specifically trained for earthquake response team will remain in British Columbia. Apparently their first duty is to the Olympics. But aren't there still three weeks to go until the games begin?

I'll vote for Heidi Greco for Prime Minister or even Premiere in the next election!
